Visit the Merced County Courthouse

The main courthouse is in the city of Merced. You can walk in during office hours and view court records for free. The clerk will look up cases by name or case number. Bring a photo ID. Fees apply only for copies, not for viewing.

Merced County Court Record Fees

Merced County charges the standard California fees for court record copies. Plain copies are $0.50 per page. Certified copies cost $40.00 per document. If the clerk needs more than 10 minutes to search for a record, the fee is $15.00. Certified copies of dissolution judgments are $15.00.

You can pay at the clerk's office. Cash, checks, and money orders are accepted. Ask about credit cards when you visit. For mail-in requests, send a check or money order payable to the Merced County Superior Court along with your request details.

Types of Merced County Court Records

Adoptions and name changes are permanent.

Juvenile records are confidential statewide. Sealed records need a court order. All other court records in Merced County are presumed public.
